Music

Music plays a large part in pub offering with our acoustic jam night featuring local musicians from various bands meeting and trying each other out. More new faces are turning up every week and we have even attracted musicians from as far a field as Beeston in Nottingham.

During the winter months and after the success of our first venture arranged by Mikk Skinner we have between 25-40 Celtic folk musicians arrive for an afternoon of fun one Sunday a month which is enjoyed by the musicians themselves and the locals.

Kev Andrews Gig

Saturday the 18th August saw Kev Andrews perform at the Travs' for the first time. Kev is the man that discovered James Morrison and co-wrote some of his songs. everyone at the Travs were impressed that night, they got Jose Solar & son David doing a warm up with some latin rhythms followed by two sets with Kev and then Freya the Danish MTV presenter who was visiting Kev to co-write some songs together did a couple of her numbers.

Freya is not only pleasant to lok at but she can also sing like a nightingale. Kev will back on 19th January this time ably accompanied by Ema Buckley. Emma is only 15 but is going places, think Kate Nash/ Katie Melua and you won't be far from wrong.

Beck Sian gig

Wednesday the 26th we had Austalian songstress Beck Sian perform for us. Beck is acousin of Kate Bush and self taught herself to sing using Kates songs. After having an eventful life Beck decided she needed to sort herself out and went bush to live rough in a forest. In these natural surroundings she taught herself guitar perfected her style and as those who attended the gig will testify developed her brilliant unique style. Beck also took time out afterwards to meet her new fan base signing autographs and CDs' for her admirers. We hopefully look forward to having Beck back in the future.

TOM BAILEY GIG

October saw the visit of Tom Bailey to play at the Travs; not only did he wish to play here as aprt of his UK tour but he said he wanted to meet the rest of the clan ( his originated in Dorset). Tom is well renowned in the States as a bluegrass fiddle player and guitarist and was ably supported by The Down Trodden String Band. Everyone had a great night which also saw young Emma Buckley perform as well. Emma is one to watch as one day she is going to be famous.

NANCY BRADBURY RIP

it is with deep regret that the Travs has to announce that one of our oldest customers Nancy died of a massive stroke recently. Nancy will be missed by both all her friends and the visiting artists because at 84 Nancy was the life and soul of the party. Becky Syson was so affected by meeting Nancy that she has even immortalised her in song.

God bless Nancy
