The Travellers Rest Pub is situated in
the large village of Draycott, Derbyshire, England.
Draycott is
surrounded by countryside but within easy reach of the neighbouring cities of
Derby and Nottingham, and the town of Long Eaton.
"The Travs", as it is known locally, is a
smart Victorian-era Public House with five distinct areas, built in 1897.
Licencees Kevin and Jackie Bailey have made many improvements but tried to keep
the old Victorian ambience - although with a modern touch.
There are normally four permanent Cask Ales on
offer - Theakston Best, Marston's Pedigree, Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Theakston
Old Peculiar, plus at least one Guest Ale, along with a choice of keg bitters,
lagers, Strongbow, Guiness and a Mild. There is also a varied choice of Spirits
and bottled drinks, as well as Wine by the glass or bottle. Tea and coffee are
also available, as are other non-alcoholic beverages. Kev and Jackie are CAMRA
members too - so if any fellow CAMRA members wish to visit and report back to
their Branch, they would be most welcome !
Although at present there is no food offered,
there is a comprehensive selection of packet bar snacks available - Pickled
Eggs and Gherkins too ! We can however, cater for functions - please ask.
Pub team games including darts, pool and
skittles are actively encouraged and played in the local leagues - new players
are always welcome. Details of all the Travellers Rest teams, along with
fixtures and information for players can be found on the Teams page.

The Passage : A favourite place to congregate,
the Passage is the "central corridor" through the Pub, connecting all the
separate rooms. It still has the original Victorian tiled floor, its own bar
and also includes the notice board, cash dispenser and games machine. |

 |
|
|
 |
 |
The Lounge : With its coal fire, carpet
throughout, large bay window and nostalgic photographs of the surrounding area,
this is a cosy place to sit and relax. A "home from home" ! |
 |

|
|
 |
 |
The Bar : Also featuring the original Victorian
tiled floor and a real coal fire, the Bar can be a lively room indeed ! There
are also two television screens in this room, one above the bar itself and
another in the opposite corner of the room, making the Bar a popular gathering
place to watch many major televised events. |

The Pool Room : A wooden-floored room which, as
the name suggests, hosts the pool table - upon which you can enjoy free pool on
Mondays. The Pool Room also houses the jukebox with its varied selection of
music - it is sure to cater to most tastes. The music from the jukebox is
"piped" into the Bar, Dart Room and Pool Room only, the Lounge being the "quiet
room". A television is also situated in the corner of the Pool Room. |

The Dart Room : Also known, for historical
reasons, as "The Old Piano Room", the Dart Room doubles up as a small
function/meeting room, holding approximately 35 people. It also has its own
servery and television. The dart board itself is positioned centrally and has
easy access for players and scorers. Adorning the walls are photos of previous
village football teams, which are of great interest to locals who like to play
"spot the family member" ! |

The Travellers Rest has developed quite
a name for itself as a live music venue, having an Open Mic/Jam Night every
Tuesday, Acoustic Live Lounge every Wednesday and covers artists/bands every
Saturday.
The Tuesday "Jam Night" is extremely
popular and has built quite a reputation for itself over the last few years. It
is regularly very well attended by numerous amateur and professional musicians
from all around the area, providing the enthusiastic audience with a wide range
of "spontaneous" music and fun. The Pub boasts its own in-house PA system,
microphones, amps, guitars, bass, keyboard and drum kit, so everyone is
encouraged to join in ! On tuesday nights,
"The Travs" is the busiest Pub for miles around !
Our Acoustic Live Lounge on Wednesdays is
especially good because it allows you to get up close to the artists in a small
intimate venue. Appearing over the last few years have been many
singer/songwriters from up and down the UK, as well as international artists
from Australia, Canada and the U.S.A., all performing their own style of music,
including Folk, Blues, Americana, Bluegrass and everything in between.
Music on Saturday nights tends to be for a
more lively, party atmosphere and features many solo artists, duos and bands.
Although some do perform some of their original material, they are mostly
"covers" acts, playing anything including Pop, Classic Rock, Blues, Soul and
Motown, etc.... so there is sure to be something there for people to enjoy and
dance to !
Continuing the music theme, we also have
Karaoke on the first Friday of every month. So all in all, if you want a good
night out, the Travellers Rest is the place to come - and all music /
events are FREE ENTRY !!
Please check out the What's On page for a comprehensive listing of all the
artists appearing in the coming months.
